Generation WHY is an interrogation. A fist in the air. A question raised against the hierarchy and the divides placed within the independent music scene of this country.
With the stage set to provide the fresh faces of the Indie scene, Generation WHY’s first edition debuts in January.
It takes immense amount of contacts and efforts for the fresh talents to take center stage at any established venue across the country. Right from their musical style to their ‘ability to pull a crowd’, we have come across many farcical reasons for venues for venues to turn down the fresh talents. The trend of being ignorant seems to continue amongst mojarity of the fans when it comes to attending gigs showcasing the new face of the scene.
With the idea to provide a platform to the fresh acts to showcase their talent in front of non-discriminatory and open to all genres audience, Generation WHY kicks off in January 2017. The idea conceptualized and curated by Aftab Khan, former Programmer/Event Executive at Hard Rock Café India, will host 4 bands across 4 different styles of music. Every artist featured on Generation WHY is handpicked as the best new talent to come out of their respective spheres by recommended by some of the freshest minds in the business.
The new property is set to take place at Andheri’s Hard Rock Café on the 5th of January featuring 4 emerging acts with music styles ranging from Hip-Hop to Psychedelic Rock, Pop-Rock and Post-Rock. Hip-Hop crew Swadesi will be joined by pop-rockers, Ryan Victor Project, psychedelic rock act, Milk, and post-rock outfit, Cat Kamikazee.
The four-piece hip-hop crew consisting of MC Mawali, MC Tod Fod, Shakahari and MC Mayavi will break the language barrier with the verses ranging in language from Marathi, Gujarati and Malayalam with local slang for hard-hitting groove.
Luminary Guitarist, Nishith Hegde will join Ryan Victor Project at the first edition of Generation WHY to give the acoustic pop-rock band a new heavier dimension marking the come-back of the collective.
Homegrown post-rock highbrows, Cat Kamikazee, who are fresh of their debut EP, Raining Cats, have managed to charm the fans back home in Pune with their soothing music. The celestial-ambient band will bring their instrumental soundscape music to Generation WHY marking the band’s first outstation show.
Finally, on the bill, psychedelic rock outfit, MILK, will bring along some fresh tunes as take center stage on the 5th of January for the first time since their last outing at High Spirit’s Bandcubator back in February.
The first edition will be followed with the idea shifting to a new venue with 4 emerging acts ranging from live electronica to Progressive and Punk rock in March 2017.
